Description
Close look at the water tank and tower. The water tank was made in Barnsley and is contemporary with the opening of the line in 1865. Beneath the tower is a large well that supplied the water for the tank. When originally built the tank supplied water for the locomotives but was later used for the horses stabled in the engine shed. The lean-to was probably intended to store sand but was later used as a store.
