Engraved portrait of William Burkitt in oval frame with the Burkitt (sometimes spelt Burkett) family motto above the frame: "Impendam et expendar" [latin: "I will spend and be spent"].
William Burkitt (1650 - 1703) was a vicar in Dedham, Essex. He was known for his Bible commentary, "Expository Notes with Practical Observations on the New Testament"
