Engraved by D.J. Pound from a photograph by Mayall. 203 x 312 mm (Plate mark largely cut off).
Portrait of 'The Right Honourable The Marquis of Salisbury, K.G. L.L.D. F.R.S.'. A handwritten pencil note bottom right dates this as 1859, which suggests that this is James Brownlow William Gascoyne-Cecil, 2nd Marquess of Salisbury (1791 – 1868), also a Member of Parliament, Lord Privy Seal then Lord President of the Council and Knight of the Garter. His son, Robert Arthur Talbot Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury, was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom three times between 1885 and 1902.
