Description
Monochrome photographic postcard, 139 x 88 mm.
Portrait of two clerics posed outdoors with a bike c.1905, location unknown. An attached note identifies them as Rev. H. B. Worthington M. A. and Rev. Swainson, curate. Published in Wheeler and Stephens, p.71.
A bike has been chosen as a posing aid in this photograph, a device much favoured by Edwardian photographers. The bicycle is interesting because, despite the un-metalled state of many roads at the time, there is no front mudguard. The state of the front tyre shows that there was plenty of mud about.
