Description
Cu alloy, l-shaped fragment, consisting of an irregular-sided bar, length72mm, of thin(2mm) rectangular section, max width 6.5mm, bent at aright angle at 1 end. The metal beyond the angle has been beaten out and bent to an irregular zig-zag section as if to fit to a moulded surface, width 10.5mm. The length of this part is15mm, but the end is missing, and a sepparate small fragment (20x8mm) also bent to fit a moulded surface, indicates that it must have been at least 40mm long originally. the other end of the bar is beaten out to semi-circular section in the same plain as the central part, though its sides are broken and may have developed into a larger segment of a circle. The outer face of the bar is stamped ACATVCELVS with well formed letters in relief. The sides of the bar have bulged slightly from stamping. Possibly a metalworkers blank or billet.
