Description
The London Orphan Asylum, Watford (1887). Wood engravings by H J (probably from photographs) for The Graphic Illustrated Weekly Newspaper, Saturday March 19 1887.
The Prince of Wales is shown at centre; the less fortunate orphans around him. Watford and St Albans had large institutional orphan and lunatic asylums by this time, catering, as the name here suggests, mainly for the London market.
