Description
The Great Library, Cassiobury, near Watford (1837) by Augustus Pugin (figures engraved by F Meyer), etching and aquatint by F Lewis; from John Britton's The History and Description of Cassiobury Park, the seat of the Earl of Essex (1837).
Cassiobury, an Elizabethan mansion remodelled in 1675 and 1800, was one of the greatest houses in Hertfordshire, but demolished in the twentieth century. Here it is recorded by Augustus Pugin, the architect of the Victorian Gothic Revival, and an accomplished draughtsman.
