Description
Etching by E.M.Tristram, signed bottom left, c.1880.
View of St Albans Abbey and the Abbey Gateway from the North West with the backs of houses around Romeland, Welclose Street and what is now Mount Pleasant. This view appears to be from around the area of Kingsbury Mount, now Mount Pleasant and 'The Brickie' park.
The West End of the Abbey is covered in scaffolding, presumably during the restoration of the Abbey by Lord Grimthorpe given the date of the print.
In the foreground, cattle are being driven across open ground.
