Description
Etching by Arthur L. Cherry, signed bottom right.
Showing the view looking up 'The Abbey Cloisters', a.k.a. Waxhouse Gate, St Albans, in the direction of the High Street entrance. Two boys lean against the wall to the right nad a sign above the archway reads "Berrys Library".
Cherry Lived in St Albans where his family owned a successful photographic studio and framing business in College Street (1909- 1911) and London Road (1912- 1940). These unusual pictures look like etchings but in fact were produced photographically. Cherry was an etcher and painter of landscapes and marine scenes as well as a photographer, he does not seem to have exhibited.
