Watercolour by J.H.Buckingham showing a view of cows grazing in a field with a child and his dog sleeping in the foreground.
Caption reads: "T Kinder Esq., Field and Land called the Trenches being the site of the trenches at the battel of St Albans, 1461.
The hedge from left to right to the Elms was Long Butt Lane, thence a cartway by the hedge to other fields now Victoria Street.
Across the centre through the elms is now Lattimore Road.
Tree to the right the site of the Midland Station.
The surface water from St Albans brewery.
