latch-lifter
Details
Description
Made from an iron bar 5.5-6mm thick, ends bent at right angles, 1 end is rectangular (length42mm) and the other end is circular (length 43mm). The diameter of the tip is 6mm. This is similar to objects known as latch lifters, levers for opening doors. An example came from Colchester (Crummy 1983, 125 no'4144) though this is slightly smaller and more angular. It is very comfortable in the hand, but the cicular end could be a tine for a wooden handle.
