Description
Untitled pen and wash drawing showing a view looking up Fishpool Street, St Albans, from the junction with Branch Road. St Albans Abbey tower can be seen in the distance. Shop sign to the left reads "John Ewington". This building is now The Black Lion Hotel, while the building on the opposite side of the road with the ornate door lintel is now The Blue Anchor pub. The cottages on the far right, next door to the Blue Anchor pub, were demolished in 1935.
Fishpool Street was one of the main routes into St Albans at this time.
Not signed, no date, but note similarity to watercolour painting by G. Shepherd dated 1809 (2006.6927).
