Description
Monochrome photographic cabinet card (albumen print mounted on board), top and bottom cut off, 155 x 108 mm. Photograph by W. & D. Downey of London.
Three quarter length studio portrait identified by a hand written note on the reverse as the Dowager Countess Craven, Lady Emily Mary Craven (nee Grimston).
Lady Emily Mary Grimston (1815 - 1901) was the daughter of James Walter Grimston, 1st Earl of Verulam and Lady Charlotte Jenkinson. She married William Craven, 2nd Earl of Craven at Gorhambury House in Hertfordshire on 5 September 1835. He died in 1866 and she is seen here in black mourning dress.
The countess' dress as well as the general apppearance of the card suggests that this photograph was taken around 1875.
