Description
Heavily embroidered mixed stitch sampler in a variety of colours commenced by Elizabeth Dun in March 1723 and completed in August. Shows alphabet and the Ten Commandments with various floral motifs. Proverbs at bottom read:
"If natures gifts shine forth in every part / Let Grace and Virtue Crown her curious Art / If her choice Favours Nature doth denie / Let Grace and Virtue those defects supply.[sic.]" and "Frinds are uncertain Riches unconstant but industry failes not. [sic.]"
