whetstone

Description

(unfigured) Regular rectangular block, 20 to 23 cm. long, used as whetstone, of fine-grained limestone, reported to be similar to that found near Upton in Somerset. One broader side (c. 7 cm.thick) and one narrower side (c. 4.5 cm. thick) are smooth although slightly irregular. Other sides, and ends are rough and irregular.
